Challenge Paddle Field Journal 2026: Nani Metcalf
“The Challenge Paddle was incredibly meaningful to me, especially being out on the water with community and moving through the islands with views of Mount Baker in the distance. The early mornings and sunsets over the water felt like we were exactly where we were meant to be, and the support from everyone made the experience unforgettable.
Even as support staff, it truly felt like we were all in it together, and I especially appreciated the connections I built with Gabe and Popolxmot, what felt like a challenge quickly became something grounded in kindness and shared strength.
The last day stood out in a really powerful way, as we all took time to share our thoughts and feelings, which made everything we had experienced together feel inspiring and intentional. Hearing everyone reflect and express gratitude brought a sense of closure and connection that was deeply moving.
What I’ll carry forward most is the reminder of how powerful community can be when we rely on each other, move with a shared purpose, and make space for honesty, gratitude, and care.”
